We didn't forget about this feature, but we are only a small group of developers who do this in their free time for free...
We could have implemented this feature a lot quicker, but than we had to do it twice. As nobody is paying us directly, especially not for this feature request, I rather do it one time and make it good than hack it in there and set the development of our new infrastructure back for a lot of time. Additionally we would have needed to maintain two versions over a longer time, slowing down development even more.
Work on the new Greenshot progresses slowly, but it will arrive!
I hope you understand this.
If you would like to see it quicker, there are a couple of options:
Contribute code for it yourself, Greenshot is open source so if you have the skills this is possible.
Invest in Greenshot for the time I need to implement this, than I can take a leave of absence from my daytime job without loosing money and still somewhat keep the schedule of the new Greenshot intact.
Buy a different screenshot tool... (We wouldn't want this)

for me this is the biggest gap in functionality. I tend to edit most of my screen captures. The current behavior opens lots of editors. A single editor with tabbed windows would be enormously more usable. Then option to minimize to try and you can have all your recent captures at your finger tips! Shame this looks to be been under consideration for several years.

We are certainly having this under consideration, actually we will rewrite the whole editor.
But this will not be a short-term possibility, first we will need to finish rewriting the core of Greenshot and than we will change the editor.

Is this no longer under consideration? +1 from me as my workflow involves taking multiple point-in-time screenshots and sorting through/comparing them, for usage, after the fact. Tabs in the editor would make this far more efficient for me
Greenshot is good but need tabs when capture some images (no need open other instance of editor). tabs is more simple and help much.
