It would be nice if we had an option to record an animated gif, something similar to Gifferly.

The ability to capture animated image sequences is an essential feature, which is not being addressed in a variety of software's and productivity tools.

The primary use case for animated image sequences is to communicate ideas in a manner that is more expressive than still images. With the rise of online whiteboarding platforms such as Miro becoming an integral workflow for many teams, capturing animated image sequences has become more important than ever. A common workflow requirement is to be able to drag animated image sequences directly into the board.

Sadly this is an area that is not being addressed, and is severely lacking in all screen capture software's to my knowledge, including Greenshot.

Although GIF is a file format that has served a valuable purpose, it is a file format that is obsolete and untenable in terms of efficiency/bandwidth/Carbon footprint.

With that in mind, the way forward should be to allow capturing animated image sequence in more optimized file formats such as WEBP, WEBM, MP4.

GIF support is still relevant and necessary however, for compatibility with software's using legacy file formats, that do not support the more modern file formats.

With capturing animated image sequences becoming integral to todays workflows, it is a severely missed feature. It would be a huge benefit to many if this was considered.

I would donate $20 for this one feature, if it were implemented.

Yes, like you see a video on facebook and want to crop a short sequence and use it in a chat right away.

It looks like @janmechtel has already put a number of the pieces together, I know many users would find this addition very useful!

Any news regarding this? GIF making is a great addition to this already great program.
