Enhancement to destination of Microsoft Word

Description

I have been doing some evaluation of Greenshot and comparing it to the tools I have used in the past via Snagit. In most cases I find Greenshot as good or better than Snagit for working with screenshots for job aids/documentation etc. The one issue I saw is that with Snagit if you send the information to Microsoft Word and you already have a Word document open the screenshot goes into the open document at the current cursor location. However, with Greenshot when you send the output to Microsoft Word it always seems to open up a new Word document and paste in the screenshot. That makes the use of the Microsoft Word option almost useless, since most of the time if you are creating a job aid or some documentation you are working in a single document and adding text and screenshots as you go.

I looked and could not see any options about sending to a new Word document vs an already open document. If there is an option to do that I would be fine with the features that already exist, but if not I am wondering if there would be a way to use an existing Microsoft Word document for the destination if one was already open. I would even be OK if that was available only if a single Word document was open, since if multiple ones were open it might be difficult to tell which one was the intended target, unless there was a way to tell which one most recently had focus.

How cool. I was just clicking on the Word icon and expecting it to go to the last Word document I had open and apparently that defaults to a new document. However, if I used the drop-down arrow it let me pick the document. That is a very flexible feature.

Thanks for your help,
Floyd

Hi,

we already implemented this, so either you are using a very old version of Greenshot or (more likely) the feature is not working intuitively for you.

If you are using our current Greenshot version, 1.1.8, you can export to an open instance of work from the destination picker (a context menu which shows after taking the capture) or from the editor:
1) When using the destination picker just hoover on the "Microsoft Word" and wait for the submenu to show, than select your document there.
2) when using the editor, click on the dropdown arrow besides the Word icon, here you can select the document.

Please let me know if this works for you, or if you have any problems.

Best wishes,
Robin
