Add Color Picker tool

Description

Currently, in order to sample a color I have to open the image in Paint.NET but it would be much faster if it was built into Greenshot. Please add a tool that shows the pixel color values in Hex and RGB (and maybe even HSV) when the cursor is placed over pixels in the captured image. This could be both an explicit tool selection in the drawing tools or a mode activated when pressing a key on the keyboard (e.g. holding down the alt key would activate the feature). It would also be convenient if you could right click when using the tool and copy the Hex value of the current pixel to the clipboard. In fact the right click copy color feature could work even when the the color picker is not selected.

I had the same request and found this post. Would it be easily possible to use the already existing feature and adding it into the menu bar (“as a link” so to say)?

As a IT PM I love the idea of simply reusing existing features

This would certainly be a welcome convenience feature, however, there is already an easy workaround:

  • select a tool that uses colour (ex: Draw Line)

  • select the colour picker for foreground or background

  • drag the eye dropper tool over the part of the image you would like to sample

  • copy the contents of the HTML colour box

This also works on areas outside the editor so you don't even need to take a screenshot.
