Yesterday evening, together with Microsoft, we found a solution for this issue which doesn’t involve adding the greenshot.exe to the excludes. This will come with Greenshot 1.3, and can already be tested by downloading an unstable from here: https://github.com/greenshot/greenshot/releases

Thanks for the feedback, we are working with PowerToys on a better solution as you might still want to have your editor in a zone...

@Robin Krom, yep, that was it! Added “greenshot.exe” to the exclude in FancyZones and that fixed it right up, thank you very much.
It mush have been a recent PowerToys update that started causing the issue.
This is safe to close now (I am very much unfamilaiir with Jira and if I can close it myself, sorry!)

If you are using PowerToys, and I think you should, you might have an issue with FancyZones. To solve this you should add Greenshot to the excludes in the FancyZones configuration.

@Robin Krom, unfortuantely that didn’t work for me.
I tried unsetting the key combo in Greenshot, turning on, then back off the prtscsn shortcut within Windows 10, and then setting a new (different) shortcut in Greenshot just for testing, in this case, Ctrl + Alt + Num Pad 8 – This way I’m trying to avoid the use of the PrtScrn button to rule that out as being an issue.
Same issue happens still, If there’s anything else I can try I will gladly do so.
PS, as noted in the case, I did make sure I had latest Greenshot installed, and i’ve also since rebooted Windows, same issue persists across reboots as well.
When attempting to capture a region (PrtScn) it will show an overlay of my 2nd monitor on top of my main monitor, and not allow me to actually interact with anything in a meaningful way any longer.
This issue just recently started, with no changes to my system/hardware/setup, etc.
I have verified I have latest Greenshot installed.
I've attached photos of the issue (since screenshots wont work!)
Notice in the close up image how it's replicating my browser window below the 2nd monitor again too, I do NOT have 2 browsers open. Weird...
