A 2D coordinate system in not enough for this...
That with 17 & 18 seems to be a bug, need to check this... I believe I reported this as a bug to Microsoft a long time go.

Hmm. I thought this was the purpose of the X and Y offset? This would essentially change the orientation of the light source and generate the desired shadow direction. One would assume that an offset of 0,0 would have the light source centered.
Why, at 0,0, does a shadow thickness value of 17 produce no shadow on the top and bottom, but a thickness value of 18 produces a significant shadow around all sides?
Is there a way to simply produce an even drop shadow? I've tried experimenting with various combinations of X,Y offsets and cannot produce a shadow along all four edges without using a very large shadow thickness value.
This used to work so nicely

In Greenshot the shadow is generated for a "virtial" light which is above the screenshot on the left top, so the shadow is always at the bottom right.
The shadow is not comming from a light which is directly frontal.
In other words, it works as designed...
Now, if you find you want to have a different shadow, it might make sense if we change this bug to a feature request where you wish a feature where you can change the shadow direction??
Best wishes,
Robin
Starting with version 1.2.7, the drop shadow stopped applying to the top and bottom edges of a screenshot until the shadow thickness is set to a very high value.
