Thanks for reporting back, good to know it was the virus scanner.
It might be that they would have fixed it... but if you found a different scanner that is okay too.

I'm closing this Jira.

Best wishes,
Robin

Robin - I wanted to let you know that I uninstalled AVG virus protection and installed Avast.  Greenshot installed perfectly.

It is interesting in that Greenshot was INSTALLED AND WORKING with AVG installed, but evidently when AVG updated it added something that blocked Greenshot from installing.

Thank you for your help.  I really like Greenshot.  Some of the other screen capturers tend to enlarge the area of interest until it was impossible to get a complete picture. Greenshot operates perfectly and the area to be captured can be precisely controlled.
Again - thanks for your help.
John

Ok, that you probably understood from the error message, but what I mean is that this error is not comming from something we made it's during the initialization process that the .NET Framework makes. An error in Greenshot itself will show you a Greenshot Window, which doesn't have something like "0xc00000e5". By using Google I found quite a lof of people having the same issue, with different applications.
So I am ruling out that there is an issue with Greenshot itself. Here is a person who uses Avast Virus scanner, and can't run many .NET applications: https://support.avg.com/answers?id=906b0000000fyAIAAY
Maybe this helps? Another possibility is that your .NET Framework is corrupted, and I expect other .NET applications don't run either. (for example Paint.NET)

That is actually old documentation, I will (and really should) update it. But there is nothing of relevance in it for you.

If the Greenshot.exe shows the error you get, than there is something wrong that prevents Greenshot from running.

Here are some details about Greenshot that might be handy for silent/mass installations.
The information in this text file is only for Greenshot versions 0.8.1 (build >=760)

INSTALLER
The Greenshot installer is made with Inno Setup, see http://www.jrsoftware.org/isinfo.php
For command line options of the installer see: http://www.jrsoftware.org/ishelp/index.php?topic=setupcmdline
Additionally some Greenshot options can also be passed to the installer, these are the /norun and /configure options.
Passed to the installer these work exactly like using them with the Greenshot.exe when installed!

Important facts to the installer:
1) When doing a normal installation and Greenshot is running the installer will show this, Greenshot needs to be terminated.
2) When doing a silent installation and Greenshot is running the installer will kill Greenshot itself.
3) Installations where configure options are passed will only work for the user that started the installation!
Work is being done to fix this in a newer Greenshot but this is currently a limitation.
4) Installations done as Admin will be available to all users. (configure options will not!)
This is also for the "Start Greenshot with Windows start", when installing as Admin this is for all users!

Robin - is any of this information relevant?:

GREENSHOT Configuration
Greenshot has a greenshot.ini file for the configuration, you can change this file at any time and Greenshot will reload the settings.

Greenshot commandline options:

        /help
                This help

        /exit
Try to close all running instances, could be used for installers

        /openfile [filename]
Open the bitmap file in the running Greenshot instance or start a new instance

        /norun
Use as last option if you don't want the started executable to spawn a Greenshot instance.
e.g. when you only want to change settings but don't want to have a running Greenshot afterwards.

Any information on how you & where got Greenshot? And how did you install it?
The 1.2.3 is actually not an officially released version, and on top of that, it's old. Please try downloading Greenshot from our website, and install it.
Just to make sure it's not something with that version: http://getgreenshot.org/downloads
When you press the download button, than Greenshot 1.2.8.12 should be downloaded. Still, the error doesn't promise much, it sounds a bit like your PC has a bigger problem.
Is it only Greenshot which shows this issue? Best wishes,
Robin |

Robin - thanks for your prompt response.  I went to the prescribed download sight and downloaded the latest version but I still get the same error message.  I have no other downloads or installs that have given me any problem.
John
