tiny icons on 15" 4k display with 250% scale factor / win10

Description

Icons, on both places: main menu (traybar) and editor are very tiny, they do not seem to be responsive (250% zoom factor on OS).

On menu it's ok as there is text as well which zooms fine.
But the editor, where only icons are on the toolbar, it's quite unusable ....

See screenshots bellow.

I have tried a different approach used for other apps (Adobe Photoshop CS3), by activating manifest file where I have disabled dpiAware config.

Which almost works (the icons are normal) but when I try to snap some selection, the entire area is zoomed very large and I can take a shot only from a small portion of the screen (upper left corner which takes entire display being zoomed)

Environment

OS: Windows 10 Enterprise x64

Hardware: Toshiba Satellite P50T-B-11D having 15.6" 4k (UHD) with 250% scale factor for internal display.

Thank you so much it works! 48px is good.

I understand totally. I have huge respect for developers who make open, donation based software. I did donate what I could, I know its not going to be enough for now.

I do hope you guys get bigger audience and there by more in terms of funding or donations.

For most cases it should suffice if you just change the Icon size in the settings, I believe 48 should do it. Please do restart Greenshot, as it resizes the icons but not the entries.

We are working on a version with better Windows 10 and DPI support, by using the newest technology of Microsoft. But without the hardware to test this it’s not easy to get things working. Remember, we are not getting paid for Greenshot, we have some donations but the hardware is expensive. We hope to accelerate this with open collective, which we just started, so we can get some surface book(s) to develop on: https://opencollective.com/greenshot

Besides you are exaggerating with “all devices”, there are a few… all high end devices. But I do see the need, no worries.

Hey guys, can you please fix this. I have a surface pro and all devices are becoming retina/high DPI slowly

Hello Greenshot Team,

Unfortunately a permanent setting is to a good solution, my internal notebook display is a High DPI display, but if I connect to a docking station I still have normal DPI displays.

It would be nice to have high DPI Icons and low DPI icons. Depending on the screens DPI settings you may choose this or the other icon set to be used.
I'm not a Windows developer but hopefully some API should be available to adjust the frond-end based on the Screen resolution / DPI setting.
It's not simply the icons, but the Text as well.

Its not a critical issue, since it still allows the correct usage of the tool, however it would be more comfortable it it would look nice as well.
It would also allow a better usage at convertibles with a High DPI Touch screen .

Many Thanks.

Markus

I'm "upvoting" this issue. On a Razer Stealth Blade with a 12.5" 4K display (3840 x 2160 resolution), Windows scaling set to 250%
