Hi,
I'm having a question regarding capturing a region through an RDP session.
It might be I'm unable to find how or it might not be possible to do this right now. (then this might be a feature request)
When I open a Remote Desktop Connection (RDP) to another system I am unable to capture a screenshot (region or otherwise) when the RDP windows has focus or is in fullscreen (which would mean it also has focus). It seems that my RDP session interprets my hotkey instead of Greenshot picking it up.
I would like to be able to open an RDP session and have my hotkey be picked up by Greenshot instead of the host I'm connecting to. In the past I was able to do this with other tools by having some sort of option window hovering in "always on top" mode where I could click and trigger my screenshot tool that way. Since Greenshot does not seem to provide this I am forced to resize my RDP in to windowed mode and set my focus on a different window.
I'm using the latest available stable version. (1.1.6 build 2779 64bit)
Thank you in advance for you feedback.
Regards,
Dirk
Hi Dirk,
Currently, there is no way for Greenshot to intercept the hotkey before it is sent to RDP, and I am also not sure whether it is possible at all from a technical point of view.
If it is, the question still is whether it would be good to do so, after all it is a feature of RDP to catch keyboard input to trap keyboard input, this allows you e.g. to use Greenshot by hotkey within your RDP session
Possible workarounds:
If I recall correctly you can take the focus away from RDP by clicking the small yellow bar on top?
According to this [superuser answer](http://superuser.com/a/296679) it should be possible to do the same by hitting Ctrl + Alt + Pause/Break. Probably not as comfortable as you would wish for, but better than switching to window mode every time...
Best regards,
Jens
Hi Jens,
Thank you for the feedback. I understand that it might not be feasible to capture the printscreen key through the RDP. Hence I suggested the floating shortcutbar what stays on top. The idea I got was from FastStone Capture which does it this way.
Thanks though for the workarround I'll take a look at that.
Hi Dirk,
Thanks for getting back to us, sounds like a useful addition to Greenshot.
I have added a [feature request](https://sourceforge.net/p/greenshot/feature-requests/656/) for this.
Best regards,
Jens
Great!
If you require more information about how they implemented it (functional not technical ) I'd be happy to provide you with some more details.
Greetings,
Dirk
