Does GreenShot work on Windows XP ????

Description

Hi, I'm working at a small company that has a small warehouse with shipping/receiving which has a Windows XP computer, because their inventory software doesn't work on newer versions of Windows.

I've been using Greenshot on my Windows 7 Professional computer and my Windows 8.1 laptop. (which I plan to upgrade both to WinBorg 7 Ultimate)

There's no mention of whether or not Greenshot works on XP on the Downloads page, so that's why I'm asking.

Thank you.

Hi,

Greenshot comes as is, there is no official support you can use. “unofficially” we support Windows 7 and the current Windows 10.

Windows XP is end of live, although Greenshot was developed for this for a long time, I cannot give any guarantee this works. And I will not test this for you, don’t have to hardware available for a VM or real installation.

We might have introduced code which doesn’t work on Windows XP or we removed code which makes it work.

I would say: Try it yourself, maybe it still works.

Best wishes,
Robin

Note:

Windows 7 will soon not be (unofficially) supported anymore, latest is januar 2020 but most likely before that time as from half 2019 I will no longer have access to that OS and from a time (and financial) aspect I cannot keep it running. New features will only be added on Windows 10, and we cannot maintain old code for free we as simply don’t have the man power.

You can assume that Greenshot 1.2.10.6 will be running, at least the core functionality, for a long time to come on Windows 7. But not the plugins, especially the cloud services, and we cannot fix bugs for that platform.

Alright, thanks Robin. Yeah I know Windows XP is long past the end of life support from Microsoft. There’s still going to be plenty of people using Windows 7 for a long time though. Windows 10 is something we shouldn’t touch even with a 100 foot pole. The constant updates that happen at various times without the users consent causes too much wait time. Then there’s the privacy issues.

Hi Robin,

Can you please confirm if Windows 7 support for this software has reached end of life? Also, I noticed the digital signatures for the downloads provided are no longer valid. Is it possible to post checksum values for the downloads?

Thank you,

Angel Jimenez
