Program keeps checking for update every 5 minutes

Program does two DNS lookups for "" every 5 minutes. All day long. I am seeing the same behaviour on three different Windows 7/10 system here. See screenshot from Pi-Hole (showing one client only).

(I assume this is the update check that has gone haywire, and not being some hidden telemetrics feature.)

Excerpt from file "C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Greenshot\Greenshot.ini":

{{; How many days between every update check? (0=no checks)
; Last update check
LastUpdateCheck=12/06/2019 14:34:27}}

Value of key "LastUpdateCheck" does not change. On all three systems the date is stuck on a value several months back (they all have different dates, though). Even if I set UpdateCheckInterval to non-zero, the value of LastUpdateCheck does not change.

Let me know if you need more info.

Are you sure the requests are actually sent by Greenshot? Do they still occur when you shutdown Greenshot? What do the requests look like?

I just had a look at the code and am pretty confident that there is no way that the update check could be triggered in intervals smaller than 1 day.

I hope I am correct to assume you changed the UpdateCheckInterval to 0 to see if the other value chances… As there should be no check if it’s set to 0.

I also had a look in the code: if the update check fails the LastUpdateCheck is not updated. Which in fact does make sense, it should check at a later time!

Can you enable the update check again, by changing the UpdateCheckInterval to 1, and check if the frequent update checks come back, and if so see if there are any errors in the log?

We have changed the feed information on our website a bit, which seems to have dramatically reduced the amount of requests and traffic the update check was producing. Can you tell us if this solved the issue on your side?
