UPDATE: Tested further.
This Bug report needs to be upgraded from Trivial to Minor.
With each new capture, if I use any tool for annotation, then use Effects > DropShadow
then the DropShadow will apply correctly as expected.
But with each new capture, if THE TOOL I FIRSTLY GO TO USE is "Effects > DropShadow"
then there is the issue where there is canvas increase but NO DROPSHADOW effect added.
Many captures I only want to add the DropShadow effect so it would be nice if this would work correctly.
Thankyou

Not sure what version it did work in if at all.
It has been many versions ago that there was this issue, and before that I may have not even tested with very early versions for the issue.
So maybe it has always been that way since the feature was first introduced.
What is the version that the Effects>DropShadow was first introduced and I can check the issue with that version?
Thanks.

It might be a Vista issue, which will be hard or even impossible for us to fix.
Windows Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft since April 2012, extend support might still be available but not for us.
We only have a small team (3 people) and as we develop Greenshot for free we can't afford having multiple installations of Windows (my SDD is just not big enough) and it is also a time factor. Currently we can develop & test on Windows 7 and Windows 10, we don't think it's usefull to have a separate Windows 8(.1) system as most stuff works fine if it works in Windows 7.
That said, I will still have a quick look. But to know what to look for, can you tell me with what Greenshot version it was still working?
After first updating to a newer Greenshot Version, the first time use Effects > DropShadow and it will increase the canvas with transparency, but there will be NO DROPSHADOW added. Second attempt will increase the canvas even more but will then add the dropshadow as expected. Noticed this with many previous versions and this version. Minor trivial.
